THE effected 23 percent price increment on every ride undertaken by Yango has been rebuffed by local drivers, charging that it is too small to meet their daily needs.
Speaking to The Scoop, one of the drivers Allan Bwalya complained that the 23 percent price increment was nothing compared to what was expected for business sense.
Mr. Bwalya added that the increment had not changed anything as Yango management had introduced Yango Rite which he said allowed clients to reduce prices without drivers’ consent.
He said as a result of the Yango Rite App, Yango drivers were unable to make good profits, the situation that said was making it difficult to service their vehicles.
“The increment is very small in that they deduct 15 percent on every ride. As though that is not enough, they introduced two things, first it was 1.9 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) and they introduced an App called Yango Rite which allows a client to adjust fares downwards without the consent of the drivers. In this case, if the order comes at K50, a client can reduce it to K30. We complained about these actions but to no avail,” he complained.
And Abel Chansa, another Yango driver, appealed to Yango management based in Russia to review the increment and consequently revoke the Yango Rite App which he said was making it impossible for drivers to meet their daily needs.
“Let them bear with us. The economy is biting and we have families to take care of. Why did they introduce the Yango Rite App? Do they want to kill their business?” he asked.
However, local taxi drivers have expressed happiness over the 23 percent price increment on every trip undertaken by Yango.
John Mwansa said the move will help to revitalise the dwindling taxi business in the country adding that since Yango came on board, local taxis had been languishing because clients preferred cheaper means of transport.
“With this increment, we are hoping that we will start making money. Clients shunned us in preference to Yango taxis,” he said.
