ECONOMIC Equity Party (EEP) President Chilufya Tayali should come out from his hiding place and exonerate himself because he is putting his sureties in serious problems, United Party for National Development (UPND) National Information and Publicity Secretary (IPS) Francis Kope has charged.
Mr. Kope in an interview said that Mr. Tayali, who is currently in hiding, needed to come back and exonerate himself because he was risking the freedom of his sureties who vouched for him.
He wondered why Mr. Tayali had gone into hiding if he had committed nothing wrong as he claimed and that he needed to face the courts so that the due process of the law was followed.
“I just want to urge Mr. Tayali to come forward and just clear his name because the current situation paints a very bad picture on him and complicates the situation of his sureties,” Mr. Kope said.
He said that the sureties were in danger because time was running out and if they did not find their client, then they would face the law.
He said that he expected the EEP leader to be magnanimous and come out of hiding for the sake of the people who signed his court bail.
He said that Mr. Tayali and Kaizer Zulu were a good example that no one was above the law and should be a learning curve to would-be offenders.
“People in the near-future will start being scared of being sureties because of such actions by Chilufya Tayali and Kaizer Zulu,” he said.
He said the courts were fair and that Mr. Tayali needed to just come back and face the law as he was assured of getting a fair judgement.
He said that people however needed to know that the New Dawn Government was following the law to the latter.
Mr. Tayali sureties are Francis Kapyanga who is PF Mpika Constituency Member of Parliament and his Nakonde counterpart Lukas Simumba.
This is in case he is charged with harassment by utilising means of electronic communication for accusing Chief Mukuni Munokalya Siloka of having Knowledge about who instigated terrorism activities of gassing homes and schools that hit the country in the early months of 2020.
