GOVERNMENT has been commended for the extension of the feeding school program from primary to secondary schools in order to keep the learners in school.
NAQEZ president Aaron Chansa said that was a positive move to keep learners active at school and that all schools must receive their feeding program regardless of which category they belonged to.
Dr. Chansa said there was a need to see the program continue because the hunger situation in most households was real, adding that the hunger situation had hit the majority of families and that this would have a negative impact on learners without such an initiative.
He noted that without food, it became difficult for learners to walk to school and concentrate when they were hungry.
“This is a good move because it is very difficult to concentrate in class when pupils are hungry. Therefore, it is very important that the Government has to introduce the feeding program in all the schools.
“The Government should extend this program in all schools across the country so that all learners are kept in schools,” Dr. Chansa said.
And Dr. Chansa said the gesture was beneficial and hoped that the Government would monitor the programme to ensure that only intended learners benefited from it.
He noted that some learners, especially in rural set ups had dropped out of schools because they could not handle the hunger situation in their areas.
“I hope this program will benefit the intended beneficiaries who are learners and not teachers who are able to provide for themselves,” he said.
