POLICE in Kalomo are investigating an incident of a break in by unknown people into the local Pep store that occurred on Monday this week.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident to the media.
Mr. Daka explains that Muleya Sichapu,33, of Kalomo Pep Store manager, reported to Kalomo police on behalf of his company that an unknown people broke into the shop where they blew the money safe using unknown type of explosives which contained a sum of K33,000 being the sales for Saturday, Sunday and Monday which was kept there.
He says the suspects entered the building through the roof by cutting the iron sheets and breaking the ceiling direct into the manager’s office where the safe was.
The South Police Chief further states that the manager could not bank the money realized from the three days sales and kept the money in the store safe and was only alerted by his neighbouring Choppies colleague on Tuesday morning after he noticed the door to Pep stores was open.
Upon receiving the tip from his colleague, Mr. Sichapu reported the matter to the local Police who also rushed to the crime scene.
And police indicate that due to the huge impact of the explosives to the safe, debris of broken concrete particles and dust in the shop and burnt Kwacha notes in all denominations including coins, were found.
