MATERO Member of Parliament and Patriotic Front (PF) faction president Miles Sampa has come under sharp criticism on the Government in which downplayed the reduction of maize price sales saying Zambians need mealie meal and not maize.
On the same post, Mr. Sampa urged the Government not only to reduce the price of maize being sold to citizens by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) but to also subsidize domestic hammer meals.
He wrote: “FRA to sell twice a month 25kg of maize at K165 to Constituencies. Good but people are not used to eating unprocessed grains as staple. It has to be in unga form. Government then needs to finance or subsidize domestics hummer (hammer) meals for households”.
But the unforgiving netizens attacked Mr. Sampa with some of them accusing him of being petty and politicking as usual. Here are some selected comments from his page:
Likezo Pumulo: So when farmers in rural areas harvest their maize, what do you think they have been doing all these years to have their mealie meal?
Some checks and balances kuwayawaya fye mwe! The Government should consider expanding Chainama Hospital, a lot of these opposition leaders should be confined there🏃♂️🏃♂️
Edward Chigaga: Pa last we will just hear ati the Government should start cooking for them. This kinda thinking awe sure. You can do better honourable
Warren Mooto: Somethings are not worth a debate. Those who don’t want maize can go to Shoprite and buy mealie meal. Upasiwe milisi na chigayo pamwamba? Pa last, muzafuna na ndiyo. Let’s learn to appreciate Govt effort to mitigate pressing issues.
Monglee Mansale: This habit of thinking for Lusaka people alone should come to an end Mr Sampa. Us we are used even masenga…
Mubonda Kalumbilo Pascal: Unless one urinates rain they will eat what is available. The sense of entitlement without getting hands dirty is what causes over-borrowing.
Kelvin Hanyinda: This is a good development. But Mbappe, next you will say Government should hire staff cook and feed people in homes. Be realistic.
Ferdinand Hantuba: If you will take this route you will lose the tiny remaining respect you have with the public. We are in a transition period, where people should take charge of their lives fully not depending on hand-outs and you are here pulling is in the reverse. Mailos lilemeke ndakukomba.
Muzo Kombe: This is a positive move which requires all well-meaning people to appreciate. By the way honourable, what happened to those hammer mills you installed?
Bunolo Liswaniso-Aongola: There are many ways of eating maize. Drinking chibuku or maheu is as good as eating nshima. Maize is the main ingredient.
