DEFENDING Zambia Soccer League champions Red Arrows this afternoon were taught a footballing lesson by giant-killing Mutondo Stars in a week six match played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium where they were handed a 3-1 defeat.
Mutondo were the superior of the two sides in much of the game and controlled the early exchanges. It came as no surprise when Mutondo took the lead in the 10th minute through Titus Chansa to lead 1-0 at the break.
However, Mutondo was not done with Arrows as they continued piling pressure and doubled the lead three minutes after the restart when Lameck Kafwaya ghosted into the area after a good interchange of passes with Arrows defenders caught napping.
Things moved from bad to worse for Chisi Mbewe’s Arrows when Chansa completed his brace with 56 minutes played.
In a desperate attempt to salvage the situation, Chisi made triple changes at the hour-mark when he brought in Alassane Diarra for Ciel Ebengo, Godfery Ngwenya for Angel Lubamba and Ackim Mumba for Lazarous Chishimba.
With the changes, Arrows found their rhythm and Diarra made an immediate impact when he reduced the deficit with a goal with 64 minutes played and despite the pressure, Mutondo remained resolute until the end of the match.
