THE Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) has said it will correct the negative impression the public has in terms of aligning the association with politics.
In an interview, EAZ President, Dr. Oswald Mungule said it would be the preserve of the Association to avoid conflicting issues by all means.
“We want to foster professionalism. A member can comment on any issue but should not publicly disparage the Association,” Dr. Mungule said.
He said divergent views from members of the public concerning EAZ would be corrected and that accuracy of information was very important hence the need for the Association to break away from the tradition of coming up with analyses and provide recommendations with what was happening in the country.
He reiterated the association’s non-engagement in politics and stated that economics as a quantitative theory, made it hard to cheat.
He added that the Association had a lot of work to do in terms of capacitating its secretariat to provide accurate and timely information further disclosed that it would engage in proper coordination before any comments were given to the public.
He said he was keen as President of the association, on upholding integrity and that being objective in giving guidance to the Government without sounding political was part of the association’s agenda.
He revealed that part of the association’s new strategy was the need to correct the negative perception that was created.
“We are a private institution that is independent and will ensure to provide accurate and highly informed data without bias,” he said.
