LUSAKA District Commissioner Rosa Zulu has sent a stern warning to people selling Kachasu at Lusaka City Market bus station.
Ms. Zulu said she was aware of some traders at Lusaka City Market bus station who were selling Kachasu but said they must cease their operations henceforth or face the wrath of the law as they would soon be visited.
In an interview with The Scoop, Ms Zulu said it was against the laws to Zambia for anyone resorting to selling the illicit spirit which was prohibited, adding that she will soon report those abrogating the laws to relevant authorities for further action.
She explained that she had been receiving reports from the concerned citizens that some traders were selling kachasu at the station and inside the market with women and some call boys taking a leading role in selling kachasu at the station.
“I have been receiving reports that some traders at Lusaka city market are selling kachasu in bottles labelled Energy drinks as well as in transparent small plastics which they sell from as low as K2 to K20 and as an Authority, will not allow such illicit behaviour to continue but will ensure that sanity is restored in all trading places,” Ms. Zulu said.
She warned that anyone that would be found wanting will be prosecuted and jailed because it was a crime to do so.
She urged the traders to adhere to the legal requirements if anyone wanted to set up a business in order to avoid inconveniences and further advised citizens to refrain from involving themselves in illegal activities.
