THE Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) has called on opposition leaders to stop conducting themselves in the manner that brings anarchy in the country.
Commenting on the arrests and detention of a number of opposition leaders, AVAP Executive Director Richwell Mulwani said the arrests are necessary because Zambia is a peaceful country which was governed by laws.
Mr. Mulwani said it was not right for some opposition leaders to keep bringing confusion and speaking from without when there were procedures that could be followed to air their grievances when they felt aggrieved.
He said it was unfortunate that most opposition political leaders had chosen to abuse their freedom of speech, adding that the fact that people had the freedom to express themselves should not be used as a weapon to bring confusion.
“This country is governed by laws and regulations and anyone who feels like something is not right should follow the procedure of reporting,” Mr. Mulwani said.
He also called on opposition political leaders to desist from dividing the country through tribal talks, saying Zambia belonged to every Zambian and no one was above the law or special than the other.
He said it was unfortunate that the people who were supposed to lead by example and preach unity were the ones preaching hatred. He said opposition political leaders ought to preach peace and unity unlike what was currently obtaining on the ground where most of them were championing tribalism.
He further called on opposition political leaders to respect the Government of the day because Zambia was a democracy and that the Government of the day deserved respect from every Zambian and that that there was need for dialogue where people felt something was not right.
He said the international community was watching and most people who used Zambia as an example of a peaceful country would be disappointed to see how things were turning out.
He called on all well-meaning Zambians to guard against tribalism and promote unity and peace, further calling on law enforcement agencies to ensure that anyone who broke the law was punished.
