THE fight against corruption should not be left to President Hakainde Hichilema alone, but instead calls for collaborative interventions to win, says Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) President Blake Mulala.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Mulala said ZCTU would remain committed to supporting the UPND- led Government in the fight against corruption.
He said the fight against corruption should not be left to the Head of State alone but that Zambians should be in the forefront in the fight.
He said the fight against corruption should bring on board all those who felt corruption was bad and had urged the government that the Auditor General’s report should be the campus which directed the fight against corruption.
“We are going to support the Government of the day on its pronouncement in the fight against corruption. This fight must not be left to the Head of State alone. It is the fight that should bring on board all those who feel how bad corruption has robbed the nation of its resources,” he said.
The ZCTU president also said the Auditor General’s report should be well followed and ensure Law Enforcement Agencies brought to book all those suspected to be culprits.
“We have the Auditor General’s report which we believe is a pathfinder, it is a campus which can lead Anti-Corruption fight and all well-meaning Zambians who want to enjoy the benefit the country has and therefore, must not allow few individuals who have corruptly gotten rich and amassed wealth while a lot of people are living their lives in poverty,” he said.
Mr. Mulala said the Congress wanted to defend the fight against corruption and form a movement around which would help to conquer the scourge.
And Mr. Mulala regretted that the previous Government almost grounded the Zambian economy, adding Zambia was recovering from the doldrums of the economy which was destroyed.
“The economy was almost gone at the time there was that change of Government,” he complained.
