ANYONE in the country involved in corruption should not complain and claim that they are being followed as a witch-hunt but should know that the law is after offenders, Minister of Information and Media Chushi Kasanda has said.
Ms. Kasanda, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, told The Scoop that the New Dawn Government would not tolerate lawlessness and corruption in its quest to fulfil the promises of development.
She said the people of Zambia voted for change and that the desire of the New Dawn Government was to foster development and restore the rule of law.
“We only have one Zambia despite our political affiliations and backgrounds. The New Dawn Government had made it clear that there would be no sacred cows. Anyone involved in corruption should not complain that they are being followed or mistake the crusade against corruption to be a witch-hunt. The law sees an offender and not their political affiliation,” Ms. Kasanda said.
She further emphasized the need for all Zambians to continue promoting unity saying development would be a far-fetched idea if the country remained divided.
She further applauded the Church for being partners of development stating that the Government was not in competition with the church.
She said that partnerships with the Church and other stakeholders remained crucial and should be promoted at all levels.
She further assured Zambians that the Government was aware of the challenges faced by the citizens and modalities aimed at improving the welfare of citizens would continue to be explored.
She said that the Government’s ultimate solution to enhancing food security lay in the collective ability by all citizens to work together in ensuring that there was increased production of food.
“The Government is dedicated to creating a conducive policy environment for all key economic sectors. What is needed is more collaboration,” she said.
She pointed out that the expansion of media coverage in the country had played a critical role in creating avenues for dialogue and collaboration.
She further urged the media in the country to continue empowering citizens with accurate and correct information to promote meaningful dialogue.
