IT is an undeniable fact that Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe has always been bitter and openly hated President Hakainde Hichilema and this is why even when he (Hichilema) was still in opposition, he received such unsubstantiated barrage from him, Sam Mwikisa has said.

Mr. Mwikisa, who is Copperbelt Province United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice Information and Publicity Secretary for Politics, said he was not surprised that up to now, Dr. M’membe had not recovered from the Patriotic Front loss to the UPND because he had consistently told his gullible followers that Mr. Hichilema would never win an election.

Reacting to a statement by Dr. M’membe suggesting that President Hichilema did not want to see former president Edgar Lungu on the ballot in 2026, Mr. Mwikisa said Dr. M’membe was bitter that Zambians gave President Hichilema a landslide victory in 2021.

He stated that instead of the Socialist Party leader wasting time in bitterness, he should work on organising his party.

“Our President has allowed all institutions to operate independently and cannot influence the removal of a candidate from the ballot whom Zambians even rejected massively. M’membe is just hallucinating and abusing the restored freedom of speech because he could never say anything under PF rule. The PF closed his own newspaper but instead of venting his anger on Lungu, he is busy attacking an innocent man who did nothing against him save for his bitterness towards people from certain tribes,” Mr. Mwikisa said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwikisa described the statement by former president Edgar Lungu pledging to be a better leader as a joke.

“As for Mr. Lungu, if he is really serious with his statement that he was better than our current hardworking President Mr Hakainde Hichilema, let Mr Lungu go to UNZA or CBU where he removed meal allowances which President Hichilema has restored and say he was better than the President who has restored meal allowances.

“Let’s see how students will handle him. Let Mr. Lungu come to the Copperbelt without police protection where people experienced gassing, closed mines, and many people went out of employment,” he said.

According to Mr Mwikisa, the former Head of State was the worst president the country has ever had and further accused the previous Government of not having a heart for humanity and a tribal grouping which he said destroyed all the gains made under UNIP and MMD administrations.

“They carelessly borrowed and even defaulted and left our economy in what seemed to be an endless pit of debt but thanks to President Hichilema, our economy is now growing at 3 percent from Mr. Lungu’s negatives.

“Therefore, Mr. Lungu is not responsible enough to hallucinate that he was better than our current President. Such a statement from Mr. Lungu is a mockery to Zambians who are now enjoying quality leadership under the leadership of Mr. Hichilema and his UPND Government,” he said.
