MINISTER of Water Development and Sanitation Mike Mposha has urged Parliamentarians to allocate resources under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to projects aimed at improving access to water in communities.
In an interview with The Scoop, Mr. Mposha said the country cannot allow people in certain areas to continue accessing unsafe water in shallow wells.
“Water remains a key development agenda as it plays a critical role in the social economic advancement of the country. Therefore, projects such as the Mtendere and PHI water improvement project demonstrate the UPND’s commitment to improving access to safe and clean drinking water throughout the country.
“The Government will continue to relentlessly mobilize resources and partner with cooperating partners in order to ensure that people have access to safe and clean drinking water so that they can live healthy lives. Therefore, improving access to safe and clean drinking water remains key to improving sanitation and public health outcomes,” Mr. Mposha said.
He has urged Members of Parliament in Lusaka and the country at large to allocate the CDF for water improved projects adding that the Government will continue to mobilize resources to ensure that there’s more investment in water supply infrastructure in the country.
And Lusaka Water and Sanitation Company Managing Director Jilly Chiyombwe said the 400 cubic metres water tank in Mtendere Township which is being implemented by the Lusaka water and Sanitation Company will supplement the old one in sorting out issues of water pressure in Mtendere and PHI.
