THE Government should stop using the police to persecute the clergy who are merely speaking on behalf of the various Zambians, Patriotic Front (PF) General Secretary Raphael Nakacinda has said.
Mr. Nakacinda in an interview said that it was unfortunate that the New Dawn government had continued persecuting the clergy who only raised concerns.
Mr. Nakacinda said not too long ago one senior United Party for National Development (UPND) member called Archbishop Alick Banda a Lucifer.
He said that it was unfortunate because the police were not showing any regard for the men of God who were only trying to give them proper checks and balances.
“It’s very shocking that Fr. Andrew Chewe Mukosa was summoned for merely talking about the high cost of living which to me is just a reminder,” he said.
He said that Zambians needed to be careful because if nothing was done the end result would be disastrous.
He said that there was a need to respect the clergy because they were servants of God who spoke on behalf of Zambians.
He said that the trend of bullying and attacking the men of God needed to stop because Zambia was a Christian nation.
“Government should stop this habit of attacking the clergy because it shows a very bad picture since Zambia is a Christian nation,” he said.
