SOUTHERN African Network Against Corruption (SANAC) Executive Director Gregory Chifire says those who plundered the national economy in the Patriotic Front (PF) Government including former President Edgar Lungu must be brought to book.
Speaking in Lusaka, Mr. Chifire said people who siphoned money in the previous Government must face the wrath of the law.
“Prosecute the people who stole money in the previous Government,” Mr. Chifire said.
He added that there should be no sacred cows in the fight against corruption and that this fight must not be segregative.
“Those who stole money in the previous Government, prosecute them. Even those that are here in the current Government, prosecute them. There is no Government that has no thief. There is no Government of Angels. We are all human beings. Even in this Government, there are people who are corrupt. Prosecute them and don’t just look at political affiliation. If there are United Party for National Development (UPND) officials who are corrupt, prosecute them; take them to court,” he said.
He said if more UPND supporters and sympathisers were arrested for corruption, it would send a very big message.
He said the fight against corruption will not be taken seriously if UPND members were involved in the scourge but allowed to go scot free.
“Just like a parent at home, if he doesn’t discipline his children, you think they will take that parent seriously? The parent must discipline the children because charity begins at home,” said.
