NKEYEMA Member of Parliament Kapelwa Mbangweta has charged that Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu erred when he went against the parliamentary Standing Orders when he dressed in a gear that was inappropriate for the House.
Speaking in an interview with The Scoop, Mr. Mbangweta, who is also Western Province Minister, said it was unfortunate that Mr. Zulu went against the rules of Parliament while crying foul for being disciplined by advancing partisan politics.
He said in Parliament, there was a code on how parliamentarians conduct themselves, unlike in the manner Mr. Zulu exhibited himself.
“In Parliament, there is a code on how to dress and how to conduct the business and all those things are found in the Standing Orders which are self-explanatory. Where there is a dispute, you go to the Standing Orders and check and when you find whatever you are looking for and compare with how your issue has been dealt with, then you must realise that there was no hard-handedness in the manner it was dealt with. In this particular case, how to dress is clearly stated and what he was putting on is not what is in the Standing Orders,” Mr. Mbangweta said.
He said Parliamentarians had been guided on the dress when attending Parliamentary sessions.
Mr. Zulu had been suspended from Parliament for seven days for gross disorder after he deliberately wore a chitenge material in the House.
Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti said Mr. Zulu will not be allowed to enter the premises of Parliament building for the duration of the suspension.
And Mr. Zulu said that he was not going to challenge his suspension.
