… Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba questions the strength of the “so-called” alliance partners who don’t even have a single councillor

THE United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) spearheaded by former president Edgar Lungu is a failed project because none of the alliance members apart from himself have a following as they do not even have a single councillor, Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has charged.

In an interview with The Scoop, Dr Mumba said the newly-formed alliance headed by Mr. Lungu will fail lamentably as it was ill-conceived and that it could not be a plausible solution to Zambia’s current challenges.

He said the formation of the alliance was questionable, considering the leadership involved as it would not grow or be vibrant in its operations, arguing that alliance members had no political mantra to change the political landscape of the country.

He said he did not see the alliance succeeding because it lacked a common shared vision amongst all its members as 90 percent of them in exclusion of Mr. Lungu, do not even have councillors for their parties as they depended on the former Head of State for survival.

‘It is no secret that former president Lungu is riding on Patriotic Front structures as his form of survival in politics,” Dr Mumba said, adding that the alliance would fail as most of the members involved lacked resources for growth.

He has advised the United Kwacha Alliance members to focus on issues that would help develop the country as there were better things to do in order to turn the economy around unlike cheap politics.

Meanwhile, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says Mr. Lungu is merely using United Kwacha Alliance partners as political doormats to dust themselves from their tainted history.

Mr. Mweetwa said it was clear that the United Kwacha Alliance partners were being used by the PF to cleanse themselves from their stained political past.

He said whereas the opposition had been commended for coming up with an alliance, the real motivation behind the formation of the grouping was that finally, the PF had managed to rebrand itself.

He said Mr. Lungu and his alliance partners had realized that the PF, as a brand name, was tainted.

He said the PF had come up with a way of disguising themselves as though they were not the ones by forming an alliance with individuals without a following.

“The United Kwacha Alliance in real terms is PF Kwacha alliance. They have realized that the PF as a brand name is tainted with divisive and hate speech. It is tainted with tribal talks, corruption, and maladministration. It is simply a non-sellable brand.

“It is the same old wine in the same old bottles. Nothing will change in the trajectory of politics of this country by the formation of this so-called alliance,” Mr. Mweetwa said.

“When we went to the 2021 General Election, we knew who the major player was. We said it was UPND then other political parties joined to form what is still called UPND Alliance. So, this United Kwacha Alliance is a PF Alliance. That’s it,” he added.
