FOOTBALL Analyst Wezi Mazunda believes the U-17 women’s team will emerge victorious when they face Uganda in the third round of the World Cup qualifiers at Nkoloma Stadium on May 12.
Speaking in an interview, Mazunda said the Zambia U-17 national team has what it takes to beat Uganda.
She said it was resounding that the girls beat Tanzania with a comfortable margin in the previous round via a 5-0 score-line before drawing level in the second round.
“The girls have what it takes. We know how they performed in the previous round. They were very determined. We hope to see that determination when they play Uganda,” Mazunda said.
She added: ” For the expectation and pressure that came with beating a team like Tanzania and beating them here comfortably…they won 5-0 and when they went to Tanzania they drew. There is a lot of hope playing a team like Uganda. I always say football is unpredictable. It is how good you are tactically and how you apply yourselves on the pitch. So, if they study the Ugandan game plan, know everything about Uganda, then, they will be in charge,” she said.
She said the U-17 women’s team was very competitive and that this sent a strong signal to its opponents.
“The girls are very competitive. I like to call them Copper Babies. The level at which the U-17 women national team is now, is very high. It has a lot of talent. This is a generation which is showing inspiration everywhere. In 2020, they went to Region 5 Games, they were champions. In 2021, they went to Malawi Region 5 games and they came second,” she recounted.
