FORMER United Party for National Development (UPND) Serenje District chairman and current Central Province Mobilization Committee Member Aubrey Muzaza has challenged the church to speak against tribalism.
Mr. Muzaza said the silence by the church over the current happenings especially on tribalism was too loud to be ignored.
He said the church had in the past condemned the Government on a number of issues but was suspiciously quiet over the current tribal remarks by some lawmakers.
“We have heard in the past the church condemning the Government and coming out strongly on a lot of issues but when we need their voice mostly they are all silent. This gives a picture that they are not just and fair. The church should take a leading role to unite the country because the church knows what it means when there is unity in the country,” Mr. Muzaza said.
He said the country expected the church to be in the forefront to come out strongly to condemn the current tribal statements that were made by some opposition Members of Parliament regarding the rule of law.
He expressed disappointment that up to date, the church had remained quiet and suggested that it must be a big offence for Members of Parliament to break the law.
He said MPs should lead by example by ensuring that they abide by the laws that they make.
