The printing of new curriculum text book is in progress, says Zambia Educational Publishing House (ZEPH), Managing Director Agnes Mumba Wilkins.
In an interview with The Scoop, Ms. Wilkins said the process is being carried out in stages, with materials at various stages such as printing, gathering, laminating, gang stitching, and packaging.
Ms. Wilkins said ZEPH’s second printing mandate has also progressed significantly and that soon, teachers will receive hard copies of both the 32 syllabi and 37 modules as the Ministry of Education begins to roll out the new curriculum.
She explained that the printing of 32 syllabi and 37 teaching modules was currently a work in progress.
“The publishing house operates under three mandates established by the 1992 Act of Parliament, CAP 29 of the Laws of Zambia: (a) Publishing; (b) Printing; and (c) Distribution of educational materials written by the Ministry of Education’s Curriculum Development Center,” she explained.
Ms. Wilkins noted that the total expenses incurred by ZEPH cannot yet be determined, as the full procurement process and all three mandates are still in progress.
“Once the packaging is completed, ZEPH will also begin its third mandate, which involves the distribution of the printed curriculum materials.
As evident in the three mandates, the printing of the 32 syllabi and approximately 37 teaching modules is ongoing, with different materials at various stages: some are in printing, while others are in gathering, laminating, gang stitching, or packaging,” she said.
She said at a time schools opened for Form 1, Early Childhood Education, and Grade 1 learners on February 10, 2025, ZEPH had completed its first mandate by publishing all 32 syllabi for those levels, which were made available online for teachers across the country.
Additionally, Ms. Wilkins stated that the educational materials will include resources for children with special education needs, such as braille materials, to support the education of historically disadvantaged learners, including those with disabilities.
