The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is working towards
improving the military’s capabilities to provide advanced health services to
uniformed personnel.
The regional body has since convened a two-day meeting in Lusaka to come up with
strategies to provide comprehensive and responsive military health services for
operational readiness and well-being of military personnel.
SADC Military Health Services Working Group Troika Chairperson Brigadier General
Dr. Jackson Kasela said a healthy and more resilient SADC region can only be
realized through continued cooperation, innovation, and dedication.
Dr. Kasela, who is the Director General of the Zambia Defence Force
Medical Services, said the meeting is a critical platform to assess achievements, identify challenges, and chart the way forward to ensure the
aspirations of the SADC Military Health Services Working Group Troika are
actualized.
Dr. Kasela said the military in SADC must work hard to standardize and coordinate
the provision of health services by the military.
The SADC Military Health Services Working Group Troika has attracted Senior
Military Health Officers from Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Tanzania is the immediate past Chairperson of the Troika, while Zambia is the
current Chairperson and Zimbabwe is the next Chairperson.
