SIMATAA WARNS COMPANY AGAINST UNCOLLECTED GARBAGE

KAMWALA Ward Five councillor Mainda Simataa has threatened to report the Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company for not collecting waste in Kamwala along the ring road.

Mr. Simataa in an interview said that waste management was now separated from the council and that the firm was the one that was now collecting.

He said heaps of garbage were being formed around the area near the Ring Road despite him reporting the matter about three months ago and that this was frustrating for him as a civic leader most especially that the country was grappling with the Cholera pandemic.

He warned that if nothing was done, he would escalate the matter with the Minister of Local Government Gary Nkombo.

He said that he was doing everything possible to ensure that his ward was free from Cholera which recently ravaged the country and claimed lives.

“I just want to urge the waste management firm to ensure that it moves in because this is actually a health hazard that will lead to a disaster if nothing is done about it,” Mr. Simataa said.

He also called on residents to subscribe to the Lusaka Waste management so that their garbage could be collected on time adding that the standard subscription fee was from K100 to 130 but the prices could go up or down due to the fuel prices.

He noted that action needed to be taken as soon as possible because children usually traversed the dumpsite and in the process could contract diseases.

“If they do act now, I will have no option but escalate the matter with the Minister Mr. Gary Nkombo because peoples’ lives are at risk,” he said.

He expressed optimism that action would be taken before lives were lost because the dumpsite was growing on a daily basis.
