THE Zambia’s rich mineral resource has attracted a large number of prospective investors seeking side-line meetings at the ongoing Investing Africa Mining Indaba in South Africa, Finance and National Planning Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane has disclosed.
Dr. Musokotwane said the Zambian delegation has been the busiest at the Indaba as more investors are seeking engagements in their quest to understand the business terrain in Zambia and the opportunities that they can exploit in the mining sector.
He said that was because the country has established itself as an investment destination of choice owing to the New Dawn Government’s sound investment policies and the peace the country has continued to enjoy since independence.
In a statement issued by Tamara Nyirenda, First Secretary of Press and Public Relations at the Zambia High Commission in South Africa, Dr Musokotwane said his delegation has been engaging various mining investors on the sidelines of the ongoing 2025 Investing in African Mining Indaba and that his major role at the Indaba is to give investors assurances of Government support.
“The Government has huge mining assets in Zambia which have attracted interest from various stakeholders and we are here to link prospective investors to these assets. We have held meetings with various potential investors who have shown interest in exploration and mining in Zambia,” Dr. Musokotwane said.
He has disclosed that some of the investors who are already in Zambia are also proposing to further expand their projects in the sector and that among issues deliberated with some of them, hinge on critical minerals and mineral diversification.
And Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe said Africa can attain meaningful transformation if countries collaborate more towards achieving a common goal of developing the continent through prudent utilization of its natural resources.
Mr Kabuswe said the continent is endowed with abundant natural resources which other continents do not have and that there is a need for African countries to collaborate more.
He said the Mining Indaba has given a platform and an opportunity for more collaboration among African countries and that this is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of leveraging trade among African countries.
The Indaba has attracted more than 8000 delegates, 1200 investors, 700 mining companies, as well as 94 Government officials drawn from across 100 countries worldwide.
