THE mobile money sector is undoubtedly having positive impacts on economic outcomes, especially that Mobile phone ownership continues to increase across the country, Mobile Money Business Association of Zambia Secretary General Chris Sinchende has observed.
Speaking to The Scoop, Mr. Sinchende said that as the sector continued to grow, it is important that players take a leading role in educating and engaging clients on issues of digital transactions with the view to create a more resilient sector where both the agents and the clients are well informed.
He said that ensuring a well-informed clientele would not only ease business but also build a more financial inclusive society.
“The mobile phone and other associated financial innovations had proved to be fundamental in driving inclusive development in most developing countries Zambia inclusive. This is the reason players in the mobile money sector should take a leading role in ensuring the customers are also well educated on the various digital financial transactions.
“In a business model such as the mobile money sector, it requires that players focus on the clientele, especially those from low-income groups, as that is how the distribution of digital financial services is built on an agent network. If we really want more citizens to start using mobile money wallets for payments, providers and the players in the sector should direct more effort to educating customers, show customers how to execute transactions, and help them gain trust in the payment platforms,” Mr. Sinchende said.
He explained that the development of digital transactions and mobile payments had transformed the financial landscape hence the need as a country to ensure that many participants in this sector are well informed.
