ZAMBIAN Republican Party (ZRP) president Wright Musoma says Zambia is nowhere near a democratic nation, as there is too much injustice prevailing.

Speaking to The Scoop, Mr. Musoma alleged that the country had turned into a brutal state and was degenerating into dictatorship.

He explained that pronouncements that Zambia was democratic were not correct as they did not tally with current happenings adding that there was nothing democratic about Zambia.

“We have mixed feelings with the assertion that Zambia is the third most democratic country because we cannot see the evidence,” Mr. Musoma said.

He said that only someone who had never lived in Zambia could say or believe that the country was democratic.

“It is painful and an act of mockery to the world and Zambia seeing people celebrating lies that we are a democratic nation,” he said.

The opposition leader stated that the country was no longer having elections but selections, a situation which is saddening as United Party for National Development (UPND) members were harassing people in polling stations during elections.

He urged those who came up with such reports to take time and assess real life issues that countries faced, unlike basing their judgement on hearsay.

According to the 2024 Democracy Report by Varieties Democracy Institute V-Dem-, Zambia restored levels of democracy by 2023 and has been ranked third most democratic Country out of nine which were sliding towards autocratic rule in the world.
