THE Government should consider investing in nuclear energy in order to curb the increased load shedding which has hit the country, former Economics Association Zambia (EAZ) president Lubinda Haabazoka has said.
Dr. Haabazoka said that it was only prudent for the Government to consider investing in nuclear energy because the economy would be greatly affected if no action was taken.
He said the economy would be battered as most manufacturers will not be able to reach their optimum production levels.
“I want to urge the Government to consider investing into nuclear energy if production should continue because the economy will risk collapsing,” Dr. Haabazoka said.
He said that the Government needed to find other alternatives to counter the increased load shedding which had been reintroduced due to adverse weather patterns.
He said the Government needed to start looking for other alternative sources of energy rather than just depending on hydro power.
He said that electricity was a key component in the country and that it was only right that other alternatives were found if they could not find an alternative.
“The Government should consider finding other alternatives of power like Solar and other sources if the country’s production is to remain viable because as things stand, the economy is going to suffer a lot,” he said.
