FORMER Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has challenged his predecessor minister Jack Mwiimbu to deal with cadres and guide Inspector General Graphel Musamba to restore sanity in the country.
Mr. Kampyongo stated that it was important that the UPND Government provide the nation with an update on how they intended to address the current violence being perpetuated by alleged UPND members.
He said in an interview that last week presidential campaign team member Beene Hachoombwa for President Hakainde Hichilema was attacked in Kanyama by fellow members of the party.
He further said in Mkushi, during the elections for Deputy Mayor, two councillors belonging to UPND were clobbered by their own members.
He said Mr. Mwiimbu in several platforms has made very interesting pronouncements which eventually were not enforced into action.
“Home Affairs minister Mr. Jack Mwiimbu should quickly deal with these vices that are popping up, including guiding his Inspector General of Police, who has been overly politicized to ensure that there is sanity in the country because people are now getting scared of making movements as their safety is not guaranteed as cadres have opted to take the law into their own hands,” said Mr. Kampyongo.
He also said police should move in quickly and bring any culprit to book and criminals should not be let scot free but should face the law.
Mr. Kampyongo added that cadres have continued terrorizing innocent Zambians especially traders who could not protect themselves.
Mr. Kampyongo who is Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament said in his constituency he had dealt with cadres and unruly youths who were trying to bring confusion and now there were no reports of political violence in the area.
He observed that if cadres and criminals are not dealt with immediately they would remain a public nuisance and if not handled properly this might cause confusion in the community.
The former minister said people with criminal minds were not fit to be in society because they were detrimental to the society.
“My appeal is that police should move in quickly and arrest disgruntled youths who have continuously brought confusion and promote anarchy in the country and surrounding communities.
“The incident that occurred in Mkushi should be condemned where senior council members and all councillors were displaced by cadres after learning that their candidate didn’t win the Deputy Mayor seat, such actions should be condemned,” he said.
