CHIEF Chibale of the Lala speaking people of Serenje District has urged politicians in the country to be tolerant towards one another.
In an interview, the traditional leader said hatred should not have room in Zambian politics and that politicians should always set an example to people by being united.
Chief Chibale said once politicians were in good books, it would extend to the people that they were leading and further advised politicians to be a unifying factor among the people and not the other way round.
Chief Chibale also said that politicians should refrain from issuing statements that bordered on tribes.
“For a long time, we have lived as one people because of the “One Zambia One Nation” motto which our late founding father Dr. Kenneth Kaunda preached. I would encourage people not to allow politicians to divide them through tribalism.
“Tribalism in political circles should not be entertained at all cost. It must be condemned,” he said.
And Reformed Church in Zambia Reverend Charles Ngoma said peace should always prevail among politicians for the sake of the people and the nation at large.
Rev. Ngoma advised people not to tolerate politicians who preached violence and tribalism.
“Violent politicians who talk about tribes from both the ruling and opposition should not be entertained. It is unfortunate that after 60 years of independence, we still have politicians who want to label other people based on tribe and regions they come from.
“Zambia has remained united hence it will be unfortunate for politicians to divide us. We are one people, let’s say no to tribal and violent politics,” he said.
