THE time has come for Zambia to stop glorifying foreign coaches and instead focus on building capacity in local coaches, former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Executive Committee member Blackwell Siwale has said.
In an interview, Siwale said that Zambia’s loss to Tanzania in the World Cup qualifiers could have been avoided if the controversy involving striker Fashion Sakala had been handled better.
The Chingola-based football administrator noted that in light of Zambia’s recent loss, the country should prioritize local coaches rather than over-relying on expatriates.
Siwale, who is former Nchanga Rangers president, attributes Zambia’s football woes over the years to a lack of capacity building in local coaches.
“With the continued losses that the country has been recording, it is time to look up to local coaches instead of just relying on foreign coaches. Zambia’s football woes over the years have been due to a lack of capacity building in our local coaches,” Siwale said.
According to him, the loss to Tanzania highlighted the mishandling of Sakala’s matter and the issues he raised.
