THE Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has unearthed a fertilizer scam in Lusaka in which one company has been manufacturing fake fertilizer.
A total of nine people, including two directors of the said company, have been arrested.
Details of the scam are that a company called RUSOM Investment based in Barlastone area of Lusaka District has been producing fake fertilizer for sale to unsuspecting members of the public.
The company is said to have been mixing black soil, lime and water which was then dried and packaged for sell and has also been operating in Chongwe District of Lusaka Province, as well as Nyimba and Lundazi districts of Eastern Province.
“So far, the police has apprehended 9 suspects in connection with the scam, of which 2 are Directors of the said company. This came to light after an Agro dealer identified as Standford Mweemba bought the counterfeit fertilizer, of which he sold to some farmers who later discovered that it was fake. After the discovery, Mr. Mweemba reported the matter to the police,” reads a post from the Ministry of Information and Media.
