MP CALLS FOR  ACC BOARD APPOINTMENT

Kanchibiya Member of Parliament, Sunday Chanda, is calling for the appointment of the Anti-Corruption Board.

Mr. Chanda emphasized the importance of a robust and independent Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as Zambia continues to strengthen its democratic institutions and foster transparency.

He stressed that filling the gap in the ACC Board is not only a legal and structural necessity but also a moral imperative to ensure a non-selective, impartial, and effective fight against corruption.

Mr. Chanda explained that the ACC Board serves as the governing body that ensures the Commission operates independently and with integrity, free from political interference.

He urged the Government to prioritize the appointment and ratification of the ACC Board during the current session of Parliament, emphasizing that this was an important opportunity to demonstrate commitment to the rule of law and the principles of good governance.

Given the President’s commitment to a non-selective fight against corruption, Mr. Chanda emphasized the necessity of equipping the ACC with all the tools necessary to execute its mandate.

He emphasized that the absence of a Board significantly hampers the Commission’s ability to act decisively and risks undermining the anti-corruption agenda, eroding public trust in the process.

Mr. Chanda highlighted the importance of strong institutions in the fight against corruption and emphasized the ACC’s role as a cornerstone in this effort.

He called on Parliament to ensure that the ACC is fully empowered to carry out its essential mandate for the benefit of all Zambians and to take a significant step towards ensuring accountability, transparency, and justice in Zambia.
