ZAMBIA needs to improve data efficiencyingender-basedviolence (GBV), Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia Karolina Stasiak has said.
Ms. Stasiak who is also special representative to COMESA told The Scoop thatthe increasing the presence of victim support units and ensuring robust data would improve efficiency of GBV prevention.
She also said stakeholders including ordinary citizens should continue raising awareness against GBV in order to create an inclusive environment for development to take place.
She said concerted efforts were needed if the fight against GVB was to be won.
“We need to continue raisingawarenessagainst GBV.Efforts against GBV should be permanent and be integrated into schools. The fight should start with prevention and changing some factors contributing to the vice such as traditional practices and beliefs,” Ms. Stasiak said.
She also said there was an urgent need for community membersand other stakeholders to embrace zero tolerance to GBV and ensure that by laws were well harmonized.
Ms. Stasiakreiterated thatbanningof harmful traditional practices, focusing on the survivors and stopping stigma would help win the fight against GBV.
