IT is a known fact that Edgar Lungu is a serpent and it is good that he has said it openly himself but realistically speaking, there is nothing new about him being a snake in green grass because that has been his nature.
If anything, no one in his rightful mind would want to be associated with a snake, be it in a literal or inaccurate sense because we know the characteristics of a serpent. As a matter of fact, according to the Black Book, it is actually the serpent that got us where we are by luring Eve to eat the forbidden fruit by lying to her that God had actually lied to them about what would happen if they dared to eat the fruit.
For those of you who last saw the inside of the church only on the day you were baptised and never went back to learn more, we will break it down for you just to bring you up to speed as we delve into what Lungu is proud of.
According to the Bible, the serpent, often identified as Satan or the devil, is known for its deceptive nature. In the Book of Genesis, the serpent deceived Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, leading to the fall of humanity.
The serpent is portrayed as cunning and crafty, using its intelligence to manipulate and deceive others. This cunning nature is often associated with its role as a symbol of evil and temptation. The biblical serpent is commonly associated with evil and temptation, representing the forces of darkness and sin in the world. Its actions in the Garden of Eden led to the introduction of sin and suffering into the world.
The serpent is often used as a symbol in the Bible, representing various themes such as temptation, evil, and deception. It is a powerful symbol that is used to convey deeper spiritual truths and lessons. In the Book of Genesis, God cursed the serpent for its role in the fall of humanity, condemning it to crawl on its belly and eat dust for the rest of its days. This punishment serves as a reminder of the consequences of sin and disobedience.
For those with chicken brains, this is the same man whose law practicing licence was suspended by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) in 2010 after chewing clients’ money. Further, soon after Michael Sata died and at the crescendo of the leadership struggle that embroiled the Patriotic Front (PF), Lungu, the serpent, shrewdly dribbled everyone to become party presidential candidate for the ensuing election by disregarding the proper format of voting by ballot to simply raising up hands and acclamation and that is how he became the president.
Before being voted as Republican President, Lungu also told us that he had no vision to lead this country. Realising later that he had bobbled, he sent his handlers to “clarify” what he meant and the whole country wondered after the snake and voted for him.
We do not need to remind anyone of the outcome of such a disastrous decision as we can see with our own eyes where the economy is due to excessive and reckless borrowing and consequent failure to pay back.
But then, let us rewind a bit on this whole Dunamis fiasco. Who is behind Dunamis Fire Impact in Zambia where Lungu declared himself the snake, serpent, or Devil? Well, it is Christian Democratic Party (CDP) president Danny Pule. Pule was actually one of the staunch praise singers of Lungu up to his defeat. Most of us may recall that at one point, he was the engine behind the Christians for Lungu grouping, which used the church to campaign for Lungu.
As a matter of fact, that team was led by former Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Liya Mutale as Coordinator while Pule was Deputy Coordinator and so, seeing the snake in Dunamis Fire Impact, it must not surprise anyone because Lungu and Pule have walked this path before. They have abused the church together for political aggrandisement and they have now reverted to using the church for campaigns because they feel safe behind the pulpit.
When you see some Catholic Bishops having meetings with Lungu and his team, it has nothing to do with the word of God. It is a campaign strategy Lungu and his UKA team have adopted. They know that any disruption on holy grounds will attract sharp reactions from all Zambians and consolidate their claim that the Government is becoming intolerant to religious views.
During the meeting at Dunamis, their message was nothing about God but politics and Lungu believes this is the shrewdness with which he is playing his cards well. He believes he is far ahead of anyone and for him, the earlier the campaigns for 2026 elections, the easier it would be to win and therefore, it is a game of all systems oiled for the kill.
Lungu and those that surround him believe that come rain or sunshine, they will win the 2026 elections and their campaigns are anchored on the challenges the country is going through which are the very problems he created while he was in office.
That assemblage we saw last week had nothing to do with church. It was a political rally using friendly forces in Dan Pule as a shield and this is just the beginning. In the coming days and months, we will see a lot of church activities where mostly Catholic and Pentecostal churches will be abused as campaign grounds.
In these churches, Lungu and his friends have found allies. These can easily be bought and sold like salt on an open market like he did when he was in power.
The whole idea is to use the gullible church membership to preach about their perceived persecution and prosecution to win their souls and the first thing they have done is to bring leaders of these churches closer. Whether there are brown envelopes or not, is a debatable question but going by what has been happening a few moons back, our guess is as good as yours.
Those who think these people do not have resources must think again because not all of them have surrendered whatever they may have stolen. They also know that using these resources is not a big deal as long as they win the 2026 elections, they will have access to national resources like they did when they were in power where they could even afford to burn money in reckless abundance.
Lungu’s public excitement and public stunts are birthed from the insatiable desire to occupy the top office in the land and will do anything under the sun to try and have a second shot at State House. For him, returning to power is his daily dream and this is why we have seen him gathering any form of dead wood in the name of opposition political parties in his push for a comeback in 2026 and UKA and fragile-hearted individuals like Pule are seemingly adding value to this cause.
Those who think Lungu’s presence at Dunamis was for worship purposes must think again. After all, how can a serpent worship God? That was a political assembly using the pulpit and like earlier alluded to, Lungu has always found comfort in Catholic and Pentecostal churches which he abused with impunity when he was in power, just to gallivant for votes.
He is back to his old strategies; only that this time, he is no longer the humble one he projected himself to be. He has removed the pretence veil and has openly declared himself as the serpent out to strike anyone standing in his way to retain power.
Lungu’s silence after losing power was motivated by the fear that President Hakainde Hichilema would get him arrested for all the atrocities he committed against HH when he (Lungu) was in power but when he realised that his nemesis had other ideas, that is when he sprung up to start mobilising.
This is the reason he was reluctant to let go of the PF even after resigning from active politics because he was still testing the waters. When you kill a snake, be sure to crush its head because the chances are that it may not completely be dead and may end up striking a second time and leaving you muli mwamoneni and this is exactly what Lungu is doing.
An American author George Carlin once said “never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.” What you do with this quote is up to you.
