Human Rights Activists, Ngande Mwanajiti says mainstream media will not diminish.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Mwanajiti dismissed as false, a prophecy that claims that the relevance of mainstream media news will go into oblivion because of the emerging social media.
He said tabloids and broadsheets will not be phased out despite the domination of online media.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka, Mr. Mwanajiti, a Media Guru reveals that media stream news coverage cannot lose relevance because people need authentic information for appropriate informed decision making.
He explained that media houses must embrace social media to meet the current needs of society because it is a new platform which is inevitable.
He said the importance of mainstream media news will not go into oblivion.
However, the Governance Expert with an impeccable track record reveals that the emergence of social media is slowly diminishing which calls for adaptation, in order to serve the society better.
“Traditional media will always be relevant because its rules are different from the rules of social media. What we must do is to run pages that respond to time and I have seen that development. We have a situation where mainstream media is a bigger hold because you are also on social media one way or the other.
What is true is that social media is the revolution which you must tap but I don’t see the role of mainstream media diminishing. Yes, it will rescind but it will not go away and the search for information will not be as it used to be. At one time you had to look for information in the newspaper, radio but now information can come in your hand. So, mainstream media must change how it does things,” he said.
