THE Operation Young Vote (OYV) has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND administration in general not to be complaisant in attending to challenges especially domestic ones because of the praises and accolades shown on Zambia’s President.

OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda said President Hichilema and the New Dawn administration must ensure that they deliver in all areas where they have lacked, dragged their feet, and have somewhat dismally performed such as dealing with the high cost of living, ensuring that the mines are up and running, constitutional and legal reforms, among many issues Zambians were yearning to see being addressed in their first term.

“Whereas President HH and the New Dawn have performed well domestically on some issues, those indicated above have been ignored and less cared about,” Mr. Nyirenda stated.

He however stated that OYV welcomed the description of President Hakainde Hichilema by the African Union Commission Chairperson, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat as a selfless leader committed to uplifting not only the economic standards of Zambia, but also that of Africa.

“The realization that President HH’s stance at the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact gave hope to many African countries in resolving the debt challenges affecting many African countries by AU Commission Chairperson – H.E. Faki Mahamat and the fact that he was in constant contact with HH is evident enough that HH had ‘stolen’ hearts of world leaders and was being adored by many.

“OYV is glad that as an organisation, we noted in paragraph 5 of our statement of 24 June 2023, that President HH displayed unmatched skills and passion for lobbying the debt restructuring beyond that of Zambia,” he said.

Mr. Nyirenda stated that reality had put Zambia on the trajectory to conquering its own challenges and those of other countries.
