PRESIDENT Hakainde should not heed to people calling for the succession of Barotseland because they are doing it to promote their selfish agenda, Nkoya Royal Council member David Tambuka has said.
Mr Tambuka said the Nkoyas and other tribes like the Mbundas that were based in the region did not support the idea of Western Province separating from mainland Zambia.
He said that Zambia was a sovereign state and therefore people needed to stop the idea that they belonged to another state.
Mr Tambuka said that politicians were sponsoring youths who in turn were fanning confusion in the region.
“President Hakainde Hichilema should not entertain such people and should put a stop to this issue before it even escalates,” he said.
He said Western Province comprised a number of tribes therefore it was wrong for people to be propagating separating from the country.
He said all well-meaning Zambians needed to fight people that were calling for the succession of the Barotseland because they were unfounded and did not hold water.
“It is unfortunate that in this day and era we have people that are calling for the separation of Western Province when what we have been taught is that there is only One Zambia, One nation,” he said.
Last week, Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe said President Hichilema had no intellectual capacity to resolve the Barotseland issue.
He regretted that the Head of State was not willing to give back power to the people to govern themselves.
According to Dr M’membe the only solution to the Barotseland issue was to allow people to govern their areas, the thing he said he would do if voted into office.
Dr. M’membe also accused President Hichilema of not being honest on his stance regarding the Barotseland issue hence making threats in public while allegedly attempting to apologize privately.
The Barotseland impasse has continued sending panic to Ministers and MPs hailing from Western Province who were told to resign from government and support their traditional leader.
