THE Zambia National Marketeers Credit Association has called for a multi-sectoral approach to ascertaining the safety of products being sold on the market.
ZANAMACA president Mupila Kameya said that collaboration with various institutions that provided standards for products was key as it will help ensure products on the market especially for consumption are safe.
Mr. Kameya explained that his association carried out deliberate checks and inspections to determine the safety of products being sold.
“As the number of companies offloading goods on the market for resale keep on rising, we have trained ambassadors on health who go round in markets to check on products safety,” Mr. Kameya said.
He stated the need to collaborate with several institutions that provided standard of products in Zambians adding that partnering with local authorities and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) was cardinal as it would help in the fight against the sale of counterfeit and expired products.
“While collaborating with stakeholders, we can come up with a day in a month to go round trading places and check what products are being sold in the markets and how safe they are for consumption.
“Not all consumers have full knowledge of what is being sold on the market, whether expired or not, so it is our job to come in and assist,” he added.
He however called on the private sector to come on board in ensuring trading places were safe for business, saying the Government could not work alone on this cause.
He urged the general public to take a keen interest in learning who their suppliers were and what exactly their products were.
