EVERY product that is locally produced in the country should be well perfected to the standard of exportation, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Permanent Secretary Subeta Mutelo has said.
Ms. Mutelo told The Scoop that it is the Government’s desire to see more locally-produced products being exported as that would help grow the economy as well as ensure that local businesses also expanded.
She said that the Government is working around the clock towards ensuring that existing trade barriers with regard to exportation of locally-produced goods are addressed.
“Trade surplus contributes to economic growth in a country. When there are more exports, it means that there is a high level of output from a country’s factories and industrial facilities, as well as a greater number of people that are being employed in order to keep these factories in operation. Local manufactures should be encouraged to ensure that all products are perfected to a standard of exportation,” Ms. Mutelo said.
She said that efforts by the Government towards improving cooperation among economic actors would be upscaled.
“Export growth could be favored by improving cooperation among exporters and between the Government and various business actors and that is why the New Dawn administration had been promoting collaborations,” she said.
She affirmed Government’s commitment towards Combining short-term and long-term export growth policies with the view to support the exportation of goods.
